Lobsang P. is a 8 years old girl from Phomghar village in the Eastern Himalayas (Mön Arunachal), daughter of an underprivileged family with four children. Her parents are poor, and can hardly sustain their children. Lobsang occasionally goes to a small local government school, with very low level of resources and educational means. So her future would be to remain in poverty and under educated. The current exclusion rate of girls is very high in these areas, so educating girls is a priority for development.
The father goes to work as carpenter helper on call basis to make ends meet and mother takes care of all the children, grand mother and household work. The financial condition of the family is very precarious.
The family has four children, one boy and three girls. The boy is in a monastery, and the girls stay at home helping the parents and attend the small local school.
Her parents realize that they can not do more for her, and see that joining the Tibetan Children’s Home (TCH) residence and the Nehru Memorial school will be better for the family and for her.
So there is now an opportunity to board her in the TCH residence and enroll her in the nearby school with adequate means, helping her reach a better future and contribute to the development of the local society, helping also to close the gender gap.
You can be in direct contact with your sponsored child and monitor her progress in the education process.
